Five Lingering ‘Destiny 2’ Fixes Needed For Season 17

We only have two more TWABs until Destiny 2 launches season 17, which still does not have a name, nor do we know the story, which 3.0 element is coming and the nature of the grand Iron Banner rework. There’s a lot to cover!

But I know some things are going to get lost in the cracks. Here are five ongoing issues with Destiny 2 that I hope are addressed in season 17 amidst all the larger stuff.

1. Still Too Many Blues

What, like I wasn’t still going to be mad about blues? Pretty much until we get an auto-dismantle toggle, this is going to be an issue. For the tiny fraction of leveling usefulness they bring, players have spent literal days of their lives dismantling these, and thousands of Ascendant Shards stacked in postmasters have been lost to the sands of time after blues push them out. The recent change to not give blues after playlist activities is fine, but as you can see, we still have way, way too many blues that we’re forced to collect in moment-to-moment play.

2. Permanent Crafting Perk Unlocks

It’s pretty simple, if you pay the currency to unlock a perk on a crafted weapon, you should be able to unlock it permanently and switch back and forth when you want to. Right now, getting an enhanced perk, switching to a new one, then switching back if you don’t like it costs 6,000 normal alloy/3 Ascendant Alloy. The new system would be 4,000 and 2, but with the ability to flip back and forth between the perks going forward at will, at least through the crafting station.

3. Engram Management

I am not going to do a whole new rant about vault space after the one I did yesterday, but I wanted to highlight something that could use a quality of life improvement for a while now. That would be the engram system which only has ten slots, but houses Umbrals, Primes, Bright, Trials and presumably Iron Banner engrams next season, and if it’s full, you can’t even do things like pick up legendaries off the ground or even enhancement core. There has to be a better system than five types of engrams sharing ten slots, rather than making players constantly spend Umbrals in particular to clear them out every few activities.

4. New Light Mods

Look just…give all the New Lights all the old mods. This current system which has to have people checking Ada-1 every day for mods is pointless and just feels like more arbitrary confusion for new players. In a given season if new mods are introduced, like the new Elemental Well mods we’ve been getting, by all means, let us unlock those through gameplay. But once that time has come and gone, it’s time to just give a lot of the essential ones away and not make New Lights wait around for core build staples that are years old at this point and locked behind an RNG vendor system.

5. 1550 Matchmaking

This was run as an experiment during Guardian Games, where the 1550 Training/Competitive strike has matchmaking, unlike the actual 1550 Nightfall. I would also have this apply to other activities like seasonal ones that refuse to let there be random matchmaking at a “moderate” difficulty challenge. No, not every run has been perfect, but I do think this test has proven that having this available is better than not having it. And of course when I say “1550” I mean whatever the equivalent of that is going to be next season when power goes up again.
